Pierre Gagnaire

One of my favorite special-occasion restaurants in Paris is Pierre Gagnaire. This is also the name of the chef/owner.

This restaurant specializes in small dishes. Not small courses, but small dishes of food in each course. We had seven courses paired with lovely French wines. Each course had at least six different dishes. There were small bites of foie gras, of seared scallops, of beef cheeks, of sea bass, of tomatoes, of peas, etc. And each dish was absolutely beautiful! I have never seen more beautiful food and have never had a bigger variety of food in any restaurant. Every dish was interesting and really delicious.

We were delighted when Chef Gagnaire (with his wild hair) came out to our table and shook our hands.

This restaurant was a real treat and I highly recommend it. It is an expensive restaurant, but well worth it for a special occasion.
